Almost Doesn't Count
Words and music © 1978 J. Ochshorn
1. You'ld think a fire would have to cool
If you put it out and you went away
I haven't seen her since I was in school
But she's in my mind day after day
I would walk her home in the afternoon
She would never hide what she had to say
Even though i knew I'd be leaving soon
I never knew the price i'd pay
To see her now is just a fantasy
I'd give any amount
I almost asked her if she'd come with me
But almost doesn't count
2. Sometimes we'd kiss but I never dared
To have her teach me about romance
I was pretty young and a little scared
She never gave me a second chance
To have her now I never really can
I'll always be without
I almost loved her — loved her like a man
But almost doesn't count
[Bridge] What did I do to make her go away
If I just knew what I know today
I almost had what I needed
But I let it slip away
3. Other memories fade but I still can see
The moon outside made her fair skin glow
And how she looked lying next to me
I can't believe that I let her go
To hold her now when all the cards are dealt
And I lost without a doubt
I almost told her how I really felt
But almost doesn't count
