This is a live version of a song that I wrote in 1980, recorded extemporaneously in August 2016 using a hand-held iPod Touch in selfie-mode in the Elbe Tunnel, Hamburg, Germany. I discovered that I was singing consistently in the key of G (I had written the song in the key of C) and at a fairly steady rhythm, so I was able to import the song into Logic Pro when I returned to Ithaca 6 months later, and add a few instruments and background vocals. This arrangement is similar to the way I played the song when I first wrote it in 1980.
Tunnel of Love
Words and music © 1980 J. Ochshorn
1. Well you know I've been lost on the road of time traveling so far
And you know it's a long and a dangerous climb when you don't know where you are
It's so hard it's so hard to keep trying when you never seem to win
But you showed me where a new life could begin
[Chorus] Yes you showed me the tunnel of love
Now I believe it
Now that I know it's a tunnel of love
I'm never gonna leave it
2. Well you know I've been caught in these doldrums before out on the ocean
But the way you smiled brought me back to the shore and set me in motion
There's so much so much to discover but you knew it long ago
So let's go on down to where the lights are low
[Chorus] Let's go down to the tunnel of love
Now I believe it
Now that I know it's a tunnel of love
I'm never gonna leave it
3. When we go down from the world above it's gonna be scary
And when we come in the tunnel of love well it's hot and it's hairy
But don't worry don't worry baby — the world will be on a string
When you show me all the pleasures love can bring
[Chorus] When you show me the tunnel of love
Now I believe it
Now that I know it's a tunnel of love
I'm never gonna leave it
Because you showed me the tunnel of love
Now I believe it
Now that I know it's a tunnel of love
I'm never gonna leave it

Production notes:
I initially recorded this song on my refurbished iPod Touch, and then imported it into Logic Pro for further arrangement and production. The YouTube video embedded on this page was made by J. Ochshorn primarily using the original "selfie" video recording from the Elbe Tunnel, but also adding some other videos and photos taken in the area, and a few short video clips taken by Susan Schwartz, who was following right behind me in the tunnel. All instruments and vocals are by J. Ochshorn. Instruments added later include some software instruments (e.g., drums, bass, and piano) played live on a midi keyboard by J. Ochshorn, and a bit of harmonica played live by J. Ochshorn.
The Logic Pro recording was done at home in Ithaca, NY, March, 2017; the original video recording was from August 30, 2016 in the Elbe Tunnel in Hamburg, Germany.
