I have always had ambivalent feelings about Dragon Day at Cornell—an event organized primarily by first-year architecture students (a cohort of which I was a member in 1970–1971) that is a classic instance of institutional hazing. Yet, like so many nasty human enterprises, there is also something compelling about the event.
